Does the EDIC count towards the UK CCT in ICM?

No. Only the FFICM is recognised by the UK GMC for the CCT in Intensive Care Medicine.

How long does it take to prepare for each?

Most candidates spend 6-9 months preparing for the FFICM Primary, 6-9 months for the FFICM Final, and 4-6 months for each EDIC part. Timelines vary widely by baseline knowledge and clinical workload.

Which exam has a higher pass rate?

Pass rates fluctuate per sitting and are recalibrated by standard-setting. Always check the awarding body — FICM publishes pass rates by sitting, and ESICM publishes EDIC cohort statistics.

Can I sit both the FFICM and the EDIC in the same year?

Yes, but it is uncommon and demanding. Most trainees who do both space them across two or more sittings to manage workload and travel.
